Directions

All conference events on Friday, October 8, 2004 will be held at the St. Mary's Cathedral Conference Center, at 1111 Gough Street in San Francisco. The cross street is Geary Boulevard. While there is a good amount of parking available, we do encourage carpooling and using public transportation. The 38 Geary Bus stops 1 block away from the Conference Center.

Directions

The workshops on Saturday, October 9, 2004 will be held at three different schools in different parts of San Francisco. Please make sure that you know where the workshops you signed up for will be held. If you are taking a morning workshop at one school and an afternoon workshop at another, you will have a 45 minute lunch break to travel between the two schools. Be sure to remember to pack a brown bag lunch!

Directions to Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy - 4235 19TH Street

Public Transportation:

MUNI: Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy is accessible by San Francisco's MUNI subway system. Take the K,L or M Muni lines to Castro Street. Once you have exited the Castro Street MUNI station, walk two blocks SOUTH on Castro. Take a RIGHT (west) on to 19th Street and walk down 1.5 blocks. Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy is on the left (south) side of the street (past Collingwood Street).

BART: Take BART to the CIVIC CENTER, POWELL, MONTGOMERY OR EMBARCADERO STATIONS (in San Francisco). Transfer to the MUNI underground and take the K, L, OR M lines "Outbound" to the Castro Street Station. Follow directions from MUNI underground (see above). Harvey Milk is also walking distance from the following Bus and Trolley lines: "F" line, 24, 37, 35, 33

Driving Directions:

From the East Bay: Merge onto I-80 W toward SAN FRANCISCO ($ 3 toll over the Bay Bridge) Merge onto US-101 N toward MISSION ST. Take the DUBOCE AVE/MISSION ST exit. Turn SLIGHT LEFT to take the DUBOCE AVE ramp. The ramp becomes DUBOCE AVE. Travel Duboce Ave 1.5 long blocks. Take a LEFT on to Guerrero Street. Take a RIGHT on 18th Street. Travel down 18th Street for approximately 7 blocks. Take a left on Collingwood Street. Take a RIGHT on 19th Street. Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy will be on your left side.

From the South Bay: Take HWY 280 North towards San Francisco. Take the 19th Avenue/HWY 1 Exit (note that this exit is on the left side of the Freeway) The freeway will turn into a parkway. Get into the right lane and BEAR SLIGHTLY TO YOUR RIGHT at the first traffic light. You will be on Junipero Serra Boulevard.
Take Junipero Serra for a little less than a mile where you will reach a 5-way intersection. Stay in one of the right lanes and BEAR RIGHT. You will now be on Portola Drive. Stay on Portola for approximately 1.75 miles. Portola Boulevard will then become Market Street. Travel along Market Street as it wends its way down the hill (approximately 1.25 miles). When you get close to the bottom of the hill Market Street will straighten out. At the intersection of Castro and Market, take a RIGHT on to Castro Street. Travel two blocks down Castro and take a RIGHT on 19th Street. Travel 1.5 blocks down 19th Street. The Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy will be on your left.

From the North: Take 101 South over the Golden Gate Bridge. STAY IN THE RIGHT LANES. Take the 19th Avenue Exit on your RIGHT (immediately after bridge). You will be on a freeway and go through a tunnel. About a half-mile after the tunnel you will find a stop-light intersection where the highway turns into Park Presidio Boulevard. Continue straight down Park Presidio through Golden Gate Park (it will curve a bit as you go through the park). Once you exit the park you will be on 19th Avenue. Travel 2.25 miles down 19th Avenue (stay in the LEFT LANE). At Sloat Boulevard you will get into the LEFT TURN LANE and take a LEFT on to Sloat Blvd. (the only left turn allowed on 19th Ave.) Follow Sloat Boulevard. At the first traffic light stay in the SECOND LANE FROM THE LEFT. Bear LEFT on to Portola Drive. Stay on Portola for approximately 1.75 miles. Portola Drive will then become Market Street. Travel along Market Street as it wends its way down the hill (approximately 1.25 miles). When you get close to the bottom of the hill Market Street will straighten out. At the intersection of Castro and Market, take a RIGHT. Travel two blocks down Castro and take a RIGHT on 19th Street. Travel 1.5 blocks down 19th Street. The Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy will be on your left.

Directions to John Muir Elementary School: 380 Webster Street

Public Transportation:

MUNI: John Muir Elementary School is accessible via the following MUNI bus lines: 22, 21, 6 & 7. The 21, 6 & 7 bus lines cross with MUNI AND BART along Market Street at BOTH the Powell and Montgomery BART/MUNI stations. The 22 bus crosses Market at Church (Church street MUNI station) and also crosses Mission @ 16th if you are coming from BART's 16th & Mission station. Please call (415) 673-MUNI for bus times and directions as well as proper pick up and drop off points if you are taking public transportation to John Muir.

Driving Directions:

From East Bay: Merge onto I-80 W toward SAN FRANCISCO ($3 Toll over the Bay Bridge) Merge onto US-101 N toward MISSION ST. Take the DUBOCE AVE/MISSION ST exit. Turn SLIGHT LEFT to take the DUBOCE AVE ramp. Take a RIGHT on to Guerrero Street. CROSS Market Street and TAKE THE STREET THAT BEARS SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT (Laguna Street). Stay on Laguna for three (3) blocks and take a LEFT on Page Street. Follow Page Street for two (2) blocks. Take a RIGHT on Webster. The school will be on your right hand side.

From the South Bay: Take HWY 280 North towards San Francisco. Take the 19th Avenue/HWY 1 Exit (note that this exit is on the left side of the Freeway). Stay in one of the LEFT HAND LANES. The freeway will let out onto a parkway. Stay in the left hand lanes and BEAR LEFT through the first stoplight intersection. You will be on 19th Avenue. Follow 19th Avenue for a little less than 3.5 miles until you get to Lincoln Boulevard. (Lincoln Boulevard is the last intersection before 19th Avenue enters Golden Gate Park). Take a RIGHT on Lincoln and get in to the left lane. Travel down Lincoln about one (1) mile. The road will bear left into the park. Follow this road and CONTINUE TO BEAR TO THE LEFT. (You will PASS one road that veers off to the right.) The road will continue curving to the left. When you start straightening out, you will come across a fork in the road. At this fork BEAR TO THE RIGHT. This road will lead you on to Oak Street (a one way street). Drive along Oak Street about 1.3 miles.
Take a RIGHT on Webster Street. The school will be on your left side.

From the North Bay: Take 101 South over the Golden Gate Bridge. Stay in the right lanes. Take the 19th Avenue Exit on your right (immediately after bridge). You will be on a freeway and go through a tunnel. About a half-mile after the tunnel you will find a stop-light intersection where the highway turns into Park Presidio Boulevard. Travel down Park Presidio Boulevard a little over 1/2 mile. Take a RIGHT on ANZA Street. Take a RIGHT on 14th Avenue (the first right you can take). Take a RIGHT on Geary Boulevard (the first right you can take). Travel along GEARY Boulevard in one of the center lanes for a little over 1.5 miles (you will go through a tunnel). IMPORTANT: After the tunnel merge into the far right lane. Be sure you stay in the far right lane to avoid the next underpass. You will travel a little less than one (1) mile along Geary Boulevard. Take a RIGHT on Webster Street (which is one block past Fillmore Street). Travel approximately 0.7 miles along Webster Street. The school is just past Oak Street on your left side.

Directions to Commodore Sloat Elementary School: 50 Darien Way

Public Transportation:

MUNI: The "K" line of the Muni Metro (underground) stops at the intersection of Junipero Serra and Ocean. Also, Commodore Sloat is walking distance from stops along the following MUNI bus lines: 17, 28, 29, 23 -- CALL (415) 673-MUNI for train and bus times/directions.

BART (From the East Bay and South Bay): Take BART to Embarcadero, Montgomery or Powell Street Stations. Go upstairs and transfer to the MUNI underground. Take the "K" MUNI line to the intersection of Junipero Serra and Ocean. The school is on the Northeast Corner of this intersection.

Driving Directions:

From the South Bay: Take HWY 280 North towards San Francisco. Take the 19th Avenue/HWY 1 Exit (note that this exit is on the left side of the Freeway) The freeway will turn into Junipero Serra Boulevard. Get into the right lane and bear slightly to your right at the first traffic light. You will be on Junipero Serra Boulevard. Take Junipero Serra 3/4 of a mile (past 2 more stop lights) and stay in the right lane. The 3rd stoplight will be Ocean Avenue. Go through this intersection and just after Ocean Avenue there is a small inlet to a side street. BEAR RIGHT on to this side street. Travel down this side street and turn RIGHT at the first opportunity on to Darien Way. The school entrance is a half block down on your right.

From the North Bay: Take 101 South over the Golden Gate Bridge. Stay in one of the right lanes. Take 19th Avenue Exit on your right (immediately after bridge). You will be on a freeway and go through a tunnel. About a half-mile after the tunnel you will find a stop-light intersection where the highway turns into Park Presidio Boulevard. Continue straight down Park Presidio through Golden Gate Park (it will curve a bit as you go through the park). Once you exit the park you will be on 19th Avenue. Travel 2.25 miles down 19th Avenue (stay in the left lane). At Sloat Boulevard you will take a LEFT (the only left turn allowed on 19th Ave.) Follow Sloat Boulevard. At the first traffic light stay in the lane 2nd from the right that will keep you going straight through the intersection. Go straight thought the intersection and you will now be on St. Francis Boulevard. Take a RIGHT at the second intersection (San Fernando Way). Travel two blocks down San Fernando Way to Darien Way and you will see the school on your right side. Take a RIGHT on Darien Way and travel down 1/2 block. The school entrance will be on your left.

From the East Bay: Take 80 West over the Bay Bridge. The freeway will then become HWY 101. Travel south on 101 until you see the HWY 280 Junction (to Daly City) on your right. Take the ramp on to HWY 280 (SOUTH). Travel approx. 2.5 miles on HWY 280. Take the Ocean Avenue Exit and STAY TO THE RIGHT. This off ramp will take you directly on to Ocean Avenue traveling west. Travel down Ocean Avenue for 1.5 miles. Take a RIGHT on San Leandro Way. Travel one block down San Leandro Way to Darien Way. Take a LEFT on Darien and travel 2.5 blocks down Darien. The school entrance will be on your left side.
